Say “I Do” to Professional Wedding Dress Cleaning and Preservation

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

You wedding dress is the centerpiece of your wedding day – chose because it, and every detail on it, is perfect for you.  After the wedding is over, your dress commemorates every happy dream and memory of your special day.  But, after a long day of dancing, photo shoots, and champagne toasts, your dress will most likely need a little tender loving care.  Professional cleaning and preservation can ensure that your dress remains as beautiful and elegant as the day you bought it.  Safeguard your dress by choosing a cleaner who is an expert at caring for these most special of garments.  Look for a cleaner who offers:

Free evaluation:  A reputable cleaner will offer a free estimate for the care of any dress.

Pick-up and delivery:  Save yourself time and hassle in the busy days after your wedding by choosing a cleaner who offers pick-up of your gown at the wedding or reception location, and home delivery of your gown after it’s been cleaned.

Hand cleaning:  Expert cleaners hand-treat and clean each gown individually, addressing “invisible” stains like perspiration and champagne with special cleaners to prevent yellowing.  Hand cleaning protects delicate beading, embroidery, and lace.

Expert repairs: Couture level dry cleaners have seamstresses on staff who can repair torn hems, loose beading, or other minor mishaps so that your dress is restored to all its beauty before storage.

Personal inspection:  Your cleaner should welcome your personal inspection of your gown before it is packed away for storage.

Museum-quality packaging:  Look for a couture-level cleaner who offers archival quality, acid free packaging for your dress to eliminate the risk of yellowing over time.

Preserve your wedding gown for the future and protect your memories for a lifetime by having your dress professionally cleaned and preserved.

Your Dress Shirts: Dry Cleaning vs. Laundering

Friday, May 17, 2013

Has this ever happened to you?  You take your cotton dress shirts to the dry cleaner, expecting to pay to have them laundered (after all, the care label says the shirt is washable).  Instead, the dry cleaner recommends that the shirt should really be dry cleaned.  Confusing?  You bet.  But, there are good reasons why you should heed your cleaner’s advice, not least that you’ll protect your shirt and your appearance if you follow it.

Your dry cleaner is an expert at what he does, and he knows it’s not the actual washing that can damage your shirt, it’s the pressing.  When items are laundered, they are pressed wet at high heat and pressure – up to 80 PSI (pounds per square inch).  Pressing at these extremes can adversely affect some shirts.  For instance, certain dark colors like black and maroon can end up with a “shine” to the fabric, while textures on some higher-end shirts can be altered beyond repair.  In addition, the high heat and pressure can crack and break buttons.

When your couture cleaner advises dry cleaning, he’s suggesting a gentler process that will safeguard the appearance and condition of your shirt.  When items are dry cleaned, they are, in fact, dry when pressed. This means that cleaning professionals can use hand held irons, with gentler pressures and heat settings, to hand finish your shirt and guarantee that you get a perfectly pressed garment.

Not every shirt needs to be dry cleaned, just like not every shirt should be laundered.  When your dry cleaner suggests one treatment or another for your favorite shirt, listen to him.  After all, he’s the expert.

Protect Your Ties: Have Your Ties Dry Cleaned the Right Way

Monday, April 15, 2013

There’s a reason anonymous business executives are called “suits”. It’s because suits, with their relatively narrow selection of colors and cuts, all tend to look the same. Ties on the other hand? Ties offer an infinite variety of patterns, fabrics and colors. A great tie is an upfront announcement that says “this is who I am” and lets your individual flair and personality shine through.

Unfortunately, it’s that very upfront placement of ties that can lead to problems. Ties are great drip catchers when you’re eating. And, over time, dirt and body oil can build up in the area where the tie is repeatedly knotted. In addition, the very construction of the tie and the way the fabric is cut makes cleaning ties a special skill.

So, what can you do if you stain your favorite accessory? First, stay away from the water. When you drop food on your tie, resist the urge to dip your napkin in your water glass and rub away. Rubbing can chafe, or damage, the fabric and leave a light spot that is hard to remove. Second, get your tie to an expert dry cleaner that has the skill to return it to its former glory.

It’s important to remember that ties are delicate, from the type of fabric used and the way the fabric is cut, to the various materials used in the internal layers that give it its shape. Correctly cleaning a tie takes skill, knowledge, and attention to detail. A couture level dry cleaner will:
  • Pre-spot your tie using moisture-free cleaning agents so as not to cause colors to bleed or weaken the fabric.
  • Place your tie in a net bag and reduce cleaning and drying times to minimize mechanical actions that can stress and stretch the delicate fabrics.
  • Hang your tie on struts after being removed from the dryer to rest the fabric and stabilize its shape.
  • Hand finish your tie with brushing and gentle steam to eliminate creases and wrinkles.
Next time you dribble a bit of soup on your favorite tie, dab (don’t rub) it gently with a clean, dry cotton cloth to remove as much of the stain as possible, then take it to your couture dry cleaner to have it cleaned the right way.

The Best Retailers in Town Trust Bibbentuckers – You Should Too!

Saturday, September 15, 2012

One great way to know the best way to care for fine clothing is to ask the retailer. Retailers don’t just recommend any dry cleaner – they have to be very selective about who they use to handle their branded merchandise.

Here in the Dallas area, high-end retailers regularly recommend Bibbentuckers as the choice for their store merchandise (plus their personal garments).

The care and treatment of your fine clothing is vitally important. Haven’t you cringed before when a brand-new pair of designer clothes got thrown in the “regular laundry” pile? The appropriate care of your couture clothing will lengthen its life and ensure that you continue to look fabulous in it!

As a trusted partner of many high-end retailers, Bibbentuckers has provided premier dry cleaning, laundry, stain removal and alteration services to many local retailers and commercial organizations.

Recently, Bibbentuckers was brought in by store management at the Willow Bend Neiman Marcus to do in-house training on stain treatment with specialty fabrics. Not only does that show that Neiman Marcus trusts Bibbentuckers as a source for couture dry cleaning in Dallas, it also illustrates Neimans’ own customer commitment to have well-trained associates.

Here’s just a couple more quotes from Dallas-area retailers:

“A white shirt is my own personal uniform, and they must be kept very white. I personally trust Bibbentuckers to handle my own cleaning needs. When it comes time to refer a client, I know Bibbentuckers will do a great job.”

Colleen Tishlias, Store Manager, Brooks Brothers, Dallas, TX

“Appearances are so important, whether it is security officers’ uniforms or care and maintenance of the executives’ garments, we trust Bibbentuckers to ensure our items are always in tip top shape. They are easy to work with and always responsive to our needs.”

Justin Nagy, Director – Southwest Region, Andrews International, Addison, TX

Dry Eyes Scare as Dry Cleaners Merge

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

As reported in the Park Cities People last week, competition took a backseat to customer service and friendship as Bibbentucker's Dry Cleaner merged with Turner's Dry Cleaner in Snider Plaza.

Marzella Fox of Turner's Dry Cleaners lost her husband Jay unexpectedly last May.  After 26 years of marriage and 30 years in business, she tried to keep the business going but recently decided a change was in order.

John Palms, CEO of Bibbentuckers Dry Cleaners made her an offer she couldn't refuse.  A long time competitor, Bibbentuckers Snider Plazer location was less than a block away from Turner's Dry Cleaners. Mr. Palms offered a merger of sorts.  Bibbentuckers would service her long-time customers and offer them the same level of service they were used to receiving.  Marzella would work at the Snider Plaza location maintaining a connection with customers whom she now considered friends and family.

Mr. Palms says he has already learned from her customer service skills and close connection with the community. It is something he plans to maintain moving forward.

Diana Griggs, general manager of the Snider Plaza store worked with Marzella closing down the Turner's Dry Cleaner operation.  In that short period of time, she grew close to her and her customers.  All of the Turner's customers have now been transferred to Bibbentuckers where they will be greeted by Marzella in the coming years.

Turner's Cleaners Moves to Bibbentuckers

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

from the WFAA website article on Tuesday, July 10th

Not a dry eye could be found in Snider Plaza Monday morning, as Marzella Fox, surrounded by her long-time Turner’s Cleaners customers, began a new legacy at Bibbentuckers.

John Palms, president and CEO of Bibbentuckers, along with staff and dozens of loyal Turner’s patrons, greeted Fox Monday with a surprise party welcoming her to her new position.

“It is a privilege to welcome Marzella to the Bibbentuckers family,” said Palms. “I’ve always thought we had great customer service, but we are humbled by the remarkably high standard of care that Jay and Marzella Fox demonstrated year in and year out. We are already learning so much from her.”

Through teary eyes, Fox embraced Palms’ greeting and hugged her friends, as they dropped in to make her feel welcome on her first official day at Bibbentuckers.

“It has been hard, losing Jay and deciding to close our business,” she said. “But I am so happy and excited to continue to be involved and am grateful to Bibbentuckers for the opportunity.”

Turner’s Cleaners closed its doors last weekend after serving as a mainstay of Hillcrest Road near SMU since the 1940s. Marzella and her husband, Jay, ran the popular dry cleaners for nearly 30 years, after succeeding Jay’s mother, who had run it since the 1960s.

Jay and Marzella established a thriving business, forging long-term friendships with generations of Park Cities families and setting a standard of exceptional care for garments… and most importantly, their owners. Word of mouth referrals grew their business by five or six new customers per week, with a solid customer base of nearly 500 people, many of whom sent Christmas cards – still posted on the counter in the old un-air conditioned, glass-front shop. The Foxes grew their business the old fashioned way: remembering their customers by name, treating them like family and providing consistent quality week after week, month after month, year after year.

Until Jay passed away unexpectedly toward the end of May.

The sudden loss sent shockwaves through Marzella’s life, and through the loyal customer base. “Not customers… friends,” noted Marzella.

Marzella tried to keep the cleaners operating as it always had – Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. That goal was made easier, thanks to the unsolicited help of many of her customers, even new ones.

“In the days after Jay’s death, I was so surprised by how many of my customers – my friends – came by and offered to pitch in,” said Marzella. “They spent hours helping me run the store. They weren’t asked; they just stepped up. It was amazing.”

After a few weeks, however, reality began to sink in and Marzella started to think about selling her cherished dry cleaners.

“I wanted to find someone who would treat our customers with the same level of care that we always have,” said Marzella. She opted to contact Bibbentuckers, which has a Snider Plaza location less than a block south of her store.

Without hesitation, Palms agreed to acquire Turner’s. He also extended an offer Marzella couldn’t refuse: working as many hours as she wished at Bibbentuckers’ Snider Plaza store.

“Jay and Marzella Fox have been role models in the dry cleaning world for their wonderful tradition of caring for their customers,” said Palms. “It’s an honor for Bibbentuckers to welcome Marzella and Turner’s Cleaners to our family.”

Marzella says her customers have been very supportive of her decision.

“I’m glad to be joining Bibbentuckers,” she admitted. “If I had just closed our doors and walked away, it would have been another huge loss. These are my friends. This is my community. It’s a blessing to be able to continue serving everyone.”
